Big Vern 'n' the Shootahs
Following the sudden passing of a friend from Meningitis, local businessman Pete Smith called on friends and friends of friends to form a band of ten talented musicians to play a one off charity night gig to raise money for the Neurosurgical Unit at a local hospital. The theme for the evening would be the Blues Brothers film which had been our friend's favourite movie and influenced the evening's set, stage wear and the design of the Big Vern logo.
That 'one off' charity gig was over 30 years ago and the band still performs to this day. The personnel, suits and set list might have changed over time but the friendships continue as does the support of various charities including the local radio station children's charity.
To date they have raised over £18 million for charities.
